Gail Barlow
Co-Founder & Head of Brand
As co-founder of Mutiny, I help ambitious companies turn their business strategy into brand story and their story into impact. I began my career in advertising agencies as a copywriter and creative director before shifting my focus to branding, drawn to the lasting power of strategic storytelling. In 2012, I founded Mutiny to bridge the gap between business strategy and creative execution. Today, I lead a team of Mutiny strategists, writers, and designers dedicated to helping brands define and amplify the narratives that drive growth.
In addition to leading agency engagements, I also work directly with founders and executive teams as a creative and strategic advisor. Whether guiding leadership teams through brand and culture workshops, helping a CEO sharpen how they communicate their company’s story and vision to internal stakeholders and the board, or shaping how a brand shows up in the market, I collaborate with founders and executive teams to ensure the story at the heart of the business is clear, credible, and actionable.
My approach is rooted in the belief that story isn’t just how a brand communicates. It’s how a brand competes. I lead with a story-first philosophy, using narrative as the strategic force that sharpens positioning, inspires design, aligns teams, and connects with audiences. I believe a clear, authentic story is the difference between brands that blend in and brands that break through.
Over the past decade, I’ve led brand strategy and storytelling engagements for companies at every stage of growth, from early-stage startups to global enterprises. I’m especially drawn to technology-enabled, mission-driven brands—companies changing how things are done for the better—as well as consumer startups with products worth believing in. At Mutiny, we bring together strategy, language, and design to help organizations sharpen their positioning, express their identity, and connect with the audiences who matter most.
